Corey Utsurogi Wins 2nd Consecutive Sccwga Champion Title

The 64th annual Santa Clara Women's Golf Championship was held July 31 and August 1, 2006 at San Jose Country Club.   This classic championship has been a long-standing test to some of the finest amateur women golfers in Santa Clara County.

Great weather and course conditions supplied another year of competitive golf with a full field of 112 women golfers in 8 flights.

  The championship flight provided no exception with Corey Utsurogi in only a 2 stoke lead with a score of 75 over Leigh Casey and Susie-Q Conklin after Mondays round.   On Tuesday Leigh Casey fought back with an equal round of 76 with Corey, but Corey's 2-stroke lead is what won her the championship with a two-day total of 151.  This is Corey's 2nd consecutive win as Santa Clara County champion.

 Upon acceptance of her win, Corey thanked the Santa Clara County Women's Golf Association for hosting such a fine Championship.  She also gave credit to San Jose Country Club for providing the course and staff to support the event.  Corey's home course is San Jose Country Club and she currently attends Santa Clara University where she is coached and a member of the golf team.
 
The Santa Clara County Women's Golf Association has been in existence and supporting women amateur golfers since 1942.  The association also organizes a Team Play (match play) League in which West Valley Golf Club and Santa Clara Women's Golf Clubs were the recipients of the Low Gross and Net Competition for 2006.   The trophies for these winners were also awarded during the banquet along with acknowledging all participating club champions and past County Champions by SCCWGA president Laura Lee Pixton and Team Play Chairwomen, Dee Kinnear and Bobbie Hill.
